MEET THE ARTIST
Wana Udobang is a multidisciplinary storyteller and facilitator known for using writing, poetry, performance, and curation to create deep engagement through storytelling. She has released three spoken word poetry albums, taking her work across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and North America. As a journalist, she has worked with The Guardian, CNN, BBC, Observer, and Al Jazeera. Her storytelling practice has earned her fellowships and grants from institutions including the Gabriel García Márquez Foundation, the International Women’s Media Foundation, One World Media Award, the European Journalism Fund, the Ama Ata Aidoo Fellowship at Northwestern University, and the Camargo Foundation Fellowship. A Ford Foundation grantee for her multimedia exhibition Dirty Laundry, Wana also created The Comfort Food Storytelling Workshop, which uses food memories to inspire new stories, as well as Culture Diaries, an archival project dedicated to preserving cultural memory. Alongside other curatorial work, she continues to explore themes of food, memory, identity, and the body. As a storytelling consultant, she has offered insights into how museums can evolve through inclusive storytelling, working with institutions such as the Übersee Museum, Deutsches Museum, MK&G Hamburg Fonds SozioKultur, Zayed Museum, and Rele Arts Foundation.
